This role involves installation, customization, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of system software and utilities to ensure the reliability, availability, and security of mainframe infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain Z/OS operating system software, including associated subsystems and utilities. Perform system upgrades, patches, and fixes in accordance with established procedures and best practices. Customize and tailor system parameters, settings, and configurations to meet specific requirements and optimize system performance. Monitor system performance, capacity, and resource utilization, and implement proactive measures to prevent bottlenecks and ensure efficient operation. Troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues, including hardware, software, and connectivity problems, in a timely manner. Collaborate with other IT teams, including application developers, database administrators, and network engineers, to integrate mainframe systems with other components of the IT infrastructure. Develop and maintain system documentation, including procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides. Implement and maintain security controls and measures to protect mainframe systems from unauthorized access, malware, and other security threats. Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing exercises to ensure the continuity of mainframe operations in the event of a disaster or outage. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to mainframe computing and system administration. Required Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in system programming/administration on IBM mainframe systems, with a focus on Z/OS. Proficiency in JCL (Job Control Language), SMP/E (System Modification Program/Extended), and other mainframe utilities and tools.
