Database Administrator (DBA) Contractor

Overview:
We are seeking a talented Database Administrator (DBA) to become an integral part of our team. This position offers a blend of short-term contract work with the potential for long-term engagement, including the possibility of transitioning to a full-time role. We are open to maintaining a contractor relationship if preferred by the candidate. Our aim is to enhance our team's capabilities by adding a skilled professional who excels in both formal change control environments and possesses exceptional troubleshooting abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a primary support for our
Sybase and SQL Server environments, participating actively in our migration journey from Sybase to SQL Server over the next three years.

Demonstrate proficiency in Unix, specifically in running and developing CRON jobs and command-line operations, to support our
Sybase ASE 15.7 environment.

Engage in various DBA tasks, including after-hours implementations, to optimize the workload of senior DBAs and contribute to weekly data fixes.

Assist in lightening the load on our SQL Server DBAs, requiring familiarity with Windows Servers, SQL Server, clustering, and disaster recovery practices in development, test, and production environments.

Participate in an on-call rotation from Saturday morning to Monday morning after an initial period of acclimatization, with rare instances of overtime and weekend work subject to scheduling and approval.

Qualifications:

Experience with both Sybase and SQL Server environments; familiarity with Sybase ASE 15.7 is a plus.

Strong background in Unix and experience with command-line interfaces.

Capable of working in a structured change control environment and adept at troubleshooting.

Experience or strong interest in participating in migration projects from Sybase to SQL Server is highly desirable.

Willingness to commit to a 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, with a hybrid model of two days on-site.

Our Environment:

Currently transitioning from a Sybase environment (15.7 on Solaris, X86 hardware) to a fully SQL Server landscape within the next three years.

Diverse SQL Server and Windows Server versions, with upcoming projects to update these environments, including both in-network servers and Azure integrations.

Best Regards

Atul Pal
