Position: Sybase DBA (Production Support) Location: Plano, TX (Onsite) Duration: Long Term Contract Job Description: We are seeking a skilled Sybase Database Administrator (DBA) with extensive experience in production support for both Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) and Sybase IQ. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of Sybase database environments. This role requires proactive monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal operation of critical business applications. Responsibilities: Manage and maintain Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ database environments in production and non-production settings. Perform database administration tasks including installation, configuration, monitoring, and tuning. Implement database security policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and availability. Collaborate with development teams to optimize database schema, queries, and stored procedures. Monitor database performance and proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks. Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations as required. Implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery readiness. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner. Create and maintain documentation related to database configurations, processes, and procedures. Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24x7 production support when necessary. Required Skills and Experience: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Proven experience as a Sybase DBA with hands-on experience in both Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ environments. Strong knowledge of database architecture, SQL, and database performance tuning. Experience in database security management and implementation of best practices. Familiarity with database backup and recovery strategies. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience with database monitoring tools and scripting languages (e.g., scripting, Perl, Python) is a plus. Sybase certifications (ASE and/or IQ) are desirable but not mandatory.
