Sr. Java Developer Duration: 6+ months Location: Des Moines, IA Only Local Hybrid Visa: H4 EAD GC USC Principal Financial Group Skype Hire!! INTAKE CALL NOTES: Technology Skills/Must Haves: Senior level Java development skills - backend SQL WebSphere experience is ideal - need to know how applications run on WebSphere Ability to work with data applications Nice to Have: API integrations - knowledge of JSON, XML Project: Principal recently outsourced their print and mail group - this is any incoming and outgoing print/mail. These engineers will be helping with the transition of this group. They will be working a lot of legacy applications (90% of the time). Work will be mainly backend Java, SQL, and applications running on WebSphere. There will be minimal frontend and cloud work - they have some Angular, some AWS, but these roles will mainly be working on the backend. Work will be mainly project based work with some business as usual These roles will integrate with their current team - will have a "mentor" that they will work closely with - these positions will be "core" parts of the team. Soft Skills: Looking for individuals who can jump in, have initiative, strong problem solving skills, need to be able to stay on task and work efficiently Need to be collaborative - this team works together a lot Communication is critical Looking for someone who can dig in, not be affraid of diving into old code and figuring it out Team Size: 5-8 people/developers on the team. FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Qualifications: Associate's or bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field or equivalent experience) and 6+ years work experience or equivalent experience. Proven experience as an IT professional. Ability to obtain certification(s) in an IT related field is a plus. Basic knowledge of insurance and financial services products preferred. Excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required. Proficiency with database applications, knowledge of mainframe, distributed and/or web programming language. Basic leadership and presentation skills required. Excellent time management skills preferred. Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. Must have the desire to learn new technology and continuously grow. Ability to work on cross-functional teams and collaborate with both It and non-IT partners. Some travel may be required, including overnight stays. May be required to provide on-call support. Responsibilities: Independently conducts analysis and development, requirements, coding, automated testing, debugging, designing, documentation, quality assurance review, implementation and maintenance. Understand and make well-reasoned design decisions and trade-offs. Demonstrate independence working in more than one software development layer of the solution. Participate in technical design of features.
