Job Title: SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) Location: Burlington, MA (Day 1 Onsite) Job Type: Contract Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain our organization's databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrading, administration, monitoring, and performance tuning of SQL Server databases to ensure high availability, security, and scalability. The DBA will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues, optimizing queries, and ensuring backup and disaster recovery strategies are in place. Key Responsibilities: Database Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances. Implement database policies, procedures, and standards. Manage SQL Server versions and apply patches, updates, and upgrades. Performance Tuning and Optimization: Monitor and optimize the performance of SQL Server instances. Perform query optimization and indexing to improve database performance. Analyze server performance metrics and take proactive measures for optimization. Backup and Recovery: Design and implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans. Ensure regular backups (full, differential, transaction log) are taken and tested for recovery. Restore data as needed and troubleshoot backup/recovery failures. Security and Compliance: Manage database security, including user roles, permissions, and access controls. Ensure data privacy and compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA). Implement encryption and auditing policies. Database Maintenance: Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, crashes, and data corruption. Collaborate with application teams to troubleshoot and resolve SQL-related issues in production environments. High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Implement and maintain high-availability solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, SQL Server Clustering, and database mirroring. Design and maintain failover and disaster recovery plans. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, procedures, and processes. Generate regular reports on database performance, health, and backups for management review. Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development teams to design efficient database schemas and queries. Provide support for application and business teams in terms of database usage and optimization. Experience: 3+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration, including experience with SQL Server 2012 or newer. Experience with database design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in a production environment. Technical Skills: Proficient in SQL Server management and administration (SSMS, T-SQL). Strong understanding of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery features (Always On, clustering, replication). Experience with performance tuning and query optimization techniques. Familiarity with Power scripting for automation and management. Knowledge of database security best practices (user management, encryption, auditing). Experience with backup and restore techniques and tools. Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: SQL Server certifications (preferred but not required). Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
