This role will manage and maintain several databases that support mission critical applications for the Outage Management System and GIS system. Responsibilities include: - Estimate PostgreSQL database capacities; develop methods for monitoring database capacity and usage. - Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any need downtime. - Develop Stored Procedures and Database Triggers in support of application development. - Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another. - Responsible for developer SQL code review to ensure queries are optimized and tuned to perform efficiently prior to production release. - Responsible for regular backups and recovery of databases. - Responsible for regular maintenance on databases (e.g., Vacuum, Reindexing, Archiving). - Responsible for pro-active remediation of database operational problems. Skills & Requirements 1. Maintaining the database server software, using utilities such as pg_ctl or psql to restart services or manually restarting them if necessary 2. Monitoring database performance to identify slowdowns or potential issues 3. Managing users and permissions, including adding new users and removing inactive accounts 4. Managing disaster recovery procedures to ensure that data is safe in case of a physical disaster such as fire or flood 5. Creating database objects such as tables, views, triggers, and indexes 6. Maintaining the database schema, including creating new tables, adding columns to existing tables, and deleting unnecessary tables and data 7. Performing regular database backups to ensure data integrity in case of a server crash 8. Monitoring network security to ensure that unauthorized users cannot access the database server 9.
