Job Title: Splunk SME Engineer

Location: Remote

Duration: Contract

Job Description
Splunk SME Engineer
(Splunk to Google SecOps Migration)
The Splunk Architect is an experienced Splunk SME who will assist in the development and implementation of an approach to mimic functionality performed in Splunk into Google Cloud Logging. The Splunk architect will work with an equivalent architect on the Google Cloud side to develop and execute a migration plan that duplicates the functionality of an existing splunk instance while not impacting the day-to-day activity of the current Splunk instance. Specific responsibilities are as follows:
Perform an inventory of the existing Splunk environment including installed apps, add-ons, integrations, dashboards, logs, data sources and alerts.
Perform an inventory of Splunk components including Indexers, Search Heads, Heavy Forwarders, Universal Forwarders and Clusters
Perform an inventory of the technical components including indexes, data configurations, splunkbaseapps, storage and retention polices, access (RBAC) and licenses.
Document and analyze data processing and parsing performed in the existing environment covering pipelines, log formats and data transformation
With the P architect develop a migration plan to transfer Splunk functionality to P Logging. Metadata Mapping: Map Splunks event fields, tags, and metadata structures to equivalent fields or labels supported by Google Logging. Determine how to handle fields that have no direct equivalents, potentially creating custom labels or using structured logging.
With the P Architect develop strategies that enable the parallel execution of the existing Splunk installation and the new installation in Google Cloud Logging
Participate in testing of functionality in Google Cloud logging and provide feedback and input when testing does not perform as expected
Confirm that Splunk functionality has been successfully duplicated within Google Logging.
In essence, the Data Architects role in an ETL-driven Splunk to Google Logging migration is to ensure that all log data, both historical and real-time, is reliably and efficiently transferred, properly transformed to fit the new environments schema and standards, and maintained under the necessary security and compliance frameworks. This involves careful planning, robust pipeline engineering, diligent testing, and meticulous documentation to guarantee a smooth and successful transition.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Splunk SME with a strong background in data engineering.
Expertise in writing complex Splunk queries and developing log analytics rules.
Experience with data connectors, workbooks, and runbooks.
Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation tasks.
Relevant certifications in Splunk (e.g., Splunk Certified Architect, Splunk Certified Developer
