Job Title: Sr. Network Security Engineer with F5 WAF Location: 100% Remote + On-call (1 week every 2 months, Fri to Fri) Data Centers: Reston, VA or Richmond, VA Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Network Security Engineer with expertise in Palo Alto firewalls, F5 WAF, and/or Illumio microsegmentation to support our client, a major healthcare payor organization. This role involves operating and maintaining network security infrastructure to ensure the organization's mission-critical operations run securely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities: Manage and maintain security infrastructure, including Palo Alto firewalls, F5 WAF, Illumio Microsegmentation, Proofpoint mail gateways, IDS, AWS, and other security tools. Monitor and proactively address capacity, performance, and availability issues using network monitoring tools. Respond effectively to network issues, outages, and change requests. Implement system maintenance on network/security hardware and software as needed. Create and deploy automation to enhance efficiency and reduce errors. Conduct risk assessments, investigate cybersecurity incidents, and ensure technical vulnerabilities are addressed. Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers while cross-training team members to share expertise and workload. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support network security operations. Required Skills and Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Security Engineering and a strong understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals. Subject Matter Expertise in Palo Alto firewalls. Expertise in F5 WAF and/or Illumio Microsegmentation. In-depth knowledge of IP sub-netting, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), point-to-point VPN, and WAN connectivity. Proven ability to investigate cybersecurity incidents and perform technical risk assessments. Solid understanding of hardware, software, and cybersecurity issues related to networks, data centers, and systems. Strong critical thinking, investigative, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Skills: Experience with AWS security tools. Expertise in Proofpoint Gateway (Email Security). Knowledge of Splunk and Palo Alto SOAR. Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, Palo Alto certifications, etc.).
