Job Position :: SQL Server and Database Administrator

OST Global for the General Government Delivery Center/ Pennsylvania Department of Education

Location:

100% Remote

Residency Requirements:

Candidates must reside within a commutable distance from Harrisburg, PA and Philadelphia, PA, and hold a valid U.S. Card or U.S. ship.

Screening Requirements:

We are seeking a motivated and skilled SQL Server and Database Administrator to join our dynamic team and support our suite of PDE Applications and SQL Servers.

Position Overview

The SQL Server and Database Administrator will be responsible for the administration and support of various databases and SQL Server environments within GGDC. This individual will work both independently and collaboratively with Database Administrators, Developers, Networking/Server teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the optimal performance, security, and integrity of our database systems.

Qualifications

Experience:

Proven experience as a SQL Server and Database Administrator.

Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019.

Familiarity with SSIS and Power scripting.

Experience with Azure DevOps or similar tools.

Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of database security and integrity best practices.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management:

Perform database management activities using Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019.

Install and configure database software.

Analyze, design, and review logical and physical data models.

Support the application system development life cycle.

Conduct data analysis and correction activities.

Load data tables and perform data migrations between database structures.

Review and migrate stored procedures; recommend improvements to enhance performance.

Write and utilize SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) and Power scripts.

Follow and enforce established PDE database standards.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization:

Monitor database performance and space requirements; provide recommendations for improvements.

Analyze and resolve database performance issues.

Assist with conversions from older SQL versions to current versions.

Security & Integrity:

Maintain database access security and ensure database integrity.

Ensure databases are appropriately backed up and can be restored when necessary.

Infrastructure & Development Support:

Assist with database server infrastructure and software analysis and recommendations.

Use Azure DevOps for source control, manage work items, documentation versioning, and report time spent on assigned work activities.

Collaboration & Communication:

Conduct work in a team environment with strong communication skills, both written and spoken.

Determine time estimates and schedules for own work.

Communicate accurate and useful status updates to the Database Administration Section Chief and Application Lead analysts/project managers.

Represent DBA staff at status meetings and other meetings as requested.

Continuous Improvement:

Keep current with new database releases and related products; make recommendations for their use.

Propose best practices and improvements surrounding database administration practices.

Backup Responsibilities:

Serve as a backup for the Chief of the Database Administration Section when required.
