Work Location: Onsite but It can lead to a hybrid setup depending on the manager assigned Position Overview The Data Migration Specialist will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing data migration activities for IT-related projects within New York City government agencies. This role ensures seamless migration of data between systems while maintaining integrity, security, and compliance with applicable standards. Level of Expertise Mid-Level to Senior: At least 57 years of experience in data migration projects, preferably in government or enterprise-level environments. Key Responsibilities Data Analysis and Planning - Analyze existing data systems and design migration strategies to align with project objectives. - Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and resolve potential challenges in data structure, format, and compatibility. Data Migration Execution - Develop and maintain scripts, tools, and utilities for data migration. - Execute test migrations and validate results to ensure accuracy and completeness. - Monitor live migration activities to minimize downtime and disruption. Compliance and Security - Ensure all data migration processes comply with regulations such as FERPA, HIPAA, and New York State Personal Privacy Protection Law (PPPL). - Implement robust data encryption and access control measures to secure sensitive information. Documentation and Reporting - Prepare detailed documentation of migration procedures and outcomes. - Regularly update stakeholders on migration progress, challenges, and resolutions. Qualifications Required - Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. - Proficiency in data migration tools and ETL processes, including SQL, Python, and data warehousing systems. - Extensive experience with database management systems (DBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL. - Strong knowledge of data governance and regulatory compliance standards. - Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. - Certification in data migration tools or platforms (e.g., Informatica, Talend). - Prior experience working with New York City government agencies or similar public sector clients.
