Job Title: Power BI Developer Department: Business Intelligence and Analytics Location: Austin, Texas Need to have a background in insurance or finance and experience with revenue recognition. Hybrid in Austin is ideal, remote is fine but they have to be perfect. About the Role: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Power BI Developer to join our Business Intelligence team. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI reporting solutions to provide actionable insights into our insurance policy data and its financial implications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data modeling, visualization, and an understanding of insurance business processes, including revenue and expense tracking. Key Responsibilities: 1. Data Modeling and Integration: Design and implement robust data models using Power BI to integrate and analyze data from our agency management system, including details on insurance policies, product lines, and business lines. Create and manage transformations, calculated columns and measures using Power Query, DAX. Design, develop and automate workflows utilizing MS PowerApps, Power BI, and Power Automate. Collaborate with data engineers to ensure efficient data pipelines and transformations to support reporting requirements. 2. Report Development: Develop interactive and visually compelling reports and dashboards to provide insights into new business, renewals, and cancellations at the policy level. Build reporting solutions to bridge the gap between policy transactions and their corresponding revenue and expense entries in the general ledger. Enable drill-down capabilities to policy-level details for enhanced financial and operational transparency. Develop paginated reports using Report Builder. 3. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with business stakeholders, including finance and operations teams, to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Provide training and support to end-users on Power BI tools and dashboards. Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing to ensure data accuracy and consistency across all reports and dashboards. Regularly review and optimize existing reports and models for performance and usability. Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest Power BI features and industry best practices. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative solutions to meet evolving business needs. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in computer science, Data Analytics, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of experience overall in IT and Business Intelligence projects. 3+ years of experience in developing and designing Power BI solutions like reports, dashboards and visualizations. Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query, M language and SQL. Strong knowledge of Power BI Connections, Power BI Service, Power BI Dataflows. Familiarity with insurance products, policy details, and general ledger systems is highly desirable. Experience in integrating data from multiple sources and building scalable reporting solutions. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with technical and non- technical stakeholders. Preferred Skills: Experience in Power BI architecture and Deployment Pipelines, notebooks, Python and Lakehouse. Knowledge of financial reporting principles, especially ASC 606 revenue recognition. Experience with other BI tools or data platforms (e.g., SSIS, SSAS, Azure Data Lake). Certification in Power BI or related data visualization platforms. Understanding and know-how of MS fabric, lakehouse , Dataflow gen2 Spark notebooks and ADF pipeline . Intermediate understanding of python. Able to read existing notebooks and apply changes.
