Overview:

The Diabetes, Obesity, and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) at Eli Lilly and Company is seeking a skilled and motivated Biologist to join the Obesity Research group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This individual will play a key role in supporting drug discovery and development efforts for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and related complications. The role requires a strong background in in vivo pharmacology, laboratory techniques, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

In Vivo Experimentation: Independently plan and execute in vivo experiments focused on preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets and pathways that regulate energy balance.

Rodent Handling & Surgeries: Perform routine rodent handling, dosing, and small animal surgeries, including parenteral routes of administration, stereotaxic surgeries, and tissue collection.

Molecular & Biochemical Assessments: Conduct molecular and biochemical assessments, including protein and RNA detection, Sanger sequencing, and fluorescence flow cytometry from ex vivo samples.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively within a team-oriented laboratory environment, collaborating with other scientists across various departments to achieve research objectives and department goals.

Data Analysis & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, analyze data independently, and communicate findings clearly through written reports and oral presentations. Comply with all required training and adhere to Lilly Research Policies.

Qualifications:

Education:

B.S. and/or M.S. in Biology or a closely related field.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

Knowledge of energy balance regulation and metabolic diseases is a plus.

Proficiency in immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, fluorescence, luminescence, and other assay detection technologies.

Familiarity with imaging techniques and the ability to validate and implement new technologies.

Experience with cross-functional project teams in a research setting.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work in a vivarium with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and solvents.

Hands-on laboratory experience and proficiency with laboratory equipment.

Strong attention to detail, especially in experimental procedures, data analysis, and documentation.

Comments:

The role requires direct interaction with mice in a vivarium and involves performing wet lab work.

All work must comply with Lilly Research Policies, and necessary training activities must be completed within specified timeframes.
