http://bit.ly/4ey8w48 https://jobs.nvoids.com/job_details.jsp?id=2178251&uid= 6 week Contract Role: Network Engineer (6-week Contract) Location: Santa Clarita, CA (On-site, 5 days a week)-Local Organization: UCLA Library Film and Television Archive Overview: UCLA Librarys Film and Television Archive is the second-largest archive of film and television recordings in the U.S. Located in Santa Clarita near CalArts, the facility houses a team of approximately 30 people, including film preservationists and a dedicated IT team. The archive has high-speed storage, scanning equipment, and a complex network infrastructure. Due to current priorities, the existing sysadmin is engaged in a media asset management system project, and the team requires an experienced network engineer to handle essential updates, maintenance, and reconfigurations. Contract Details: Estimated duration: 6 weeks (~250 hours) Standard schedule: MondayFriday, 9 AM5 PM (some early evenings or occasional Saturdays may be required for disruptive work) Parking: Free on-site parking available ID badge required for facility access Responsibilities: Maintain and update Cisco-based network infrastructure (routers, switches, and wireless systems) Perform necessary updates and patches to bring network devices up to the latest software levels Conduct firewall maintenance and fortify security configurations Troubleshoot network issues and ensure overall stability and performance Provide documentation and recommendations for ongoing network upkeep Work collaboratively with the existing sysadmin and team members Required Experience & Qualifications: 5+ years of network engineering experience Strong knowledge of Cisco networking equipment and configurations Understanding of network topology, routing, and switching Experience with firewall maintenance and security best practices Cisco certifications (preferred but not required) Selection Process: Review of resumes Initial screening call One Zoom interview with UCLA team, including the sysadmin and administrators Urgency & Timeline: The role is available immediately, and the hiring process is expected to be expedited due to project dependencies Next Steps: UCLA team will review candidates resumes A Zoom interview will be conducted to assess technical skills and experience Selection and onboarding process will be completed promptly Job Description from UCLA The UCLA Library is looking for a temporary network engineer to do some work in our Film and Television Archive located in Santa Clarita, CA. Specific tasks that need to be done include: Update switches and routers up to current software levels Update wireless access points to current software levels Update and maintain VoIP switches and software Perform firewall maintenance, including certificate renewal, manage internal configuration, and troubleshooting Remove an existing switch, re-routing existing fiber to the networking core Reconfigure switching fiber Advise on VLAN configuration, and configure new VLANs Provide advice on network configuration future state. Our gear is almost exclusively Cisco, and has been maintained by a network engineer through the end of 2024. There are no glaring deficiencies in the configuration. We estimate there is about 250 hours of work to be performed on site at the Santa Clarita facility. We would be interested in getting started as soon as possible.
