The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of mainframe technologies, and experience in modernizing applications by leveraging Java-based technologies. Key Responsibilities: Analyze, design, and develop solutions to convert legacy COBOL applications to Java. Assess and document existing COBOL programs, data structures, and business logic for conversion. Develop and implement migration strategies for mainframe-to-modern platform transitions. Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable Java code while ensuring functional equivalence with existing COBOL applications. Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and define technical solutions. Optimize system performance and scalability post-conversion. Conduct rigorous unit testing, integration testing, and debugging. Support deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of migrated applications. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers and team members. Required Skills & Qualifications: 10+ years of hands-on coding experience with a strong focus on mainframe and Java technologies. Expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2. Strong proficiency in Java (Java 8+), Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture. Experience with API development, RESTful services, and cloud technologies is a plus. Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development methodologies. Experience in performance tuning, debugging, and optimization of converted applications. Strong knowledge of database migration from DB2 to modern RDBMS solutions like PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team. Strong communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with mainframe modernization tools and automated migration solutions. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Previous experience in the banking, insurance, healthcare, or financial services sectors is a plus.
