Job Description - Role: Senior Linux System Administrator (100% Offer) Duration: 6 month contract Location: Chestnut Hill, MA (hybrid 2-3 days a week onsite) Local candidate ONLY Need LinkedIn Job Description: Notes: -if candidate does well, potential for them to move into a perm role within a position at Boston College (not guaranteed must be a mutual fit) -will be collaborating with application owners and infrastructure teams to support Red Hat -Using automation to configure, monitor, maintain, and secure Linux systems. -Assessing and providing recommendations for Linux server management. -Enhancing visibility and control over local access across all Linux servers in Boston College data centers. -Required experience: Red Hat Enterprise, Linux operating system and utilities, continuous integration and continuous delivery tools, automation, scripting, communication and collaboration. -Important skills: Linux administration in a VMware environment, scripting languages (Python, Power), DevOps tools (Git, BitBucket, Enterprise, Jira, Confluence, Ansible), TCP IP protocols, container-based solutions management (Podman, Docker), full systems development life cycle. -Subject matter expert Red Hat Linux OS support is needed. -current job titles Sr linux system admin, linux admin, linux engineer etc -excellent communication skills are very important -3 members on linux team currently LINUX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR The Linux Systems Administrator collaborates with application owners and the infrastructure teams to support Red Hat and other enterprise Linux systems both on-premise and in the cloud. Uses automation to ensure that all Linux systems are properly configured, monitored, maintained, and secured. Automation is critical to the team's success in managing the growing complexity and an increasing number of servers and applications. We strive to automate as many administrative tasks as possible. The selected candidate will work closely with the system administration team to assess and provide recommendations for Linux server SUDO management. They will assist in enhancing visibility and control over local SUDO access across all Linux servers in data centers. Currently, ITS manages SUDO access locally on individual servers. The goal is to standardize access, improve oversight, and implement consolidated reporting for access remediation. Skill Areas: Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS and utilities Continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools Automation scripting Communication and collaboration Requires/Role specific competencies: Demonstrate professionalism in challenging situations while fostering collaboration and teamwork Strong background in Linux Administration in a VMware environment Experience with scripting languages such as Python and Power Knowledge of DevOps tools such as: Git/Bitbucket Enterprise, Jira/Confluence, Ansible Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols Experience with Container based solutions management (Podman, Docker, Kubernetes) preferred Experience with full systems development lifecycle Comfortable with collaboration across functional borders Subject matter expert with Red Hat Linux OS support Demonstrate flexibility within a variety of changing situations while working with various individuals and groups Capable of technical deep-dives into operating systems, application performance, databases, load balancers, networks, and storage systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be available during off-hours as needed and participate in the on-call rotation. Five years of related experience preferably with complex build and deployment systems or combination of education, training, and significant scripting experience. Exposure to Administrative experience with Cloud server environments such as AWS is highly preferred.
