From: Manish Kumar, scalable [email protected] Reply to: [email protected] Job Title: Mainframe Automation Engineeer Location: Plano, TX (Onsite) Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Automation Specialist with expertise in IBM System Automation (SA z/OS) and CA OPS/MVS, as well as extensive experience in migration projects between these platforms. The ideal candidate will have 6-8 years of hands-on experience in system automation tools, mainframe environments, and migration activities. This role involves designing, configuring, and maintaining automation solutions across a complex mainframe infrastructure, as well as supporting key migration initiatives from CA-OPS/MVS to IBM System Automation and vice versa. Key Responsibilities: Migration Expertise: Lead and support migration projects, transitioning automation processes from CA-OPS/MVS to IBM System Automation (SA z/OS) and vice versa. Mainframe Automation: Develop, configure, and maintain automation solutions across the IBM SA z/OS and CA OPS/MVS environments, ensuring high availability and optimal system performance. Automation Solutions: Design and implement automated solutions to eliminate manual intervention, including automated IPLs, application recovery, and auto ticket generation. Programming Skills: Write and maintain automation scripts using REXX, CLIST, and Netview PIPE Programming to automate key processes. System Configuration & Installation: Install and configure z/OS systems and ensure proper integration of automation tools. Debugging & Problem Analysis: Perform z/OS debugging and conduct problem analysis to ensure system stability and troubleshoot issues. Upgrades & Maintenance: Support z/OS upgrades, data center consolidation, CPU refreshes, and other maintenance activities related to automation tools. Client Support & Customization: Provide ongoing support for client automation code and customize automation tools as per infrastructure requirements. Event Management: Implement and support critical event management, remote console access, and paging functionalities. Tool Functionality & Integration: Ensure all automation tools are functioning correctly and are properly integrated with the mainframe systems. Disaster Recovery: Provide support and understanding of infrastructure restores during Disaster Recovery (DR) activities and tests. Feasibility Studies & Recommendations: Lead feasibility studies and recommend automation solutions across all mainframe environments. ITIL Process Knowledge: Apply knowledge of ITIL processes and procedures for diagnostics, root cause analysis (RCA), and issue resolution. On-Call Support: Provide 24/7 on-call support for multiple customers as part of a rotational schedule. Competencies: Mainframe Automation Tools: Expertise in IBM System Automation (SA z/OS), CA OPS/MVS, and ideally, experience with tools like AF Operator and BMC Mainview AO. Automation Scripting: Proficiency in REXX, CLIST, and Netview PIPE Programming. Migration Expertise: Proven experience in CA-OPS/MVS to IBM System Automation migration and other mainframe automation integration. Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, especially for debugging z/OS systems and resolving complex automation-related issues. System & Application Knowledge: Familiarity with z/OS configuration, automation tool integration, and infrastructure management. Communication & Documentation: Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills to interact with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders. Experience: 6-8 years of experience in Mainframe System Automation, including IBM SA z/OS and CA OPS/MVS. Extensive experience in migration projects involving CA-OPS/MVS and IBM System Automation tools. Experience in configuring, developing, and supporting automation solutions within mainframe environments. Hands-on experience with z/OS system installation, REXX scripting, and Netview PIPE Programming. Desirable Skills: Expertise in additional Automation tools like AF Operator and BMC Mainview AO. Experience with Disaster Recovery procedures and understanding of mainframe restore processes. Strong understanding of ITIL processes and best practices in problem management and root cause analysis. Ability to work independently or within a team, manage deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Previous experience with automation in large-scale environments, working with multiple LPARs and complexes. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
