Direct client role Need Locals to GA only COBOL Mainframe Programmer/Developer Location: Onsite in Atlanta, Georgia (Local candidates only) Visa: Any Duration: 12+ Months Interview: Either Web Cam or In-Person Job Summary: The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is seeking a skilled and experienced COBOL Mainframe Programmer/Developer. The successful candidate will translate business requirements into programming solutions, maintain and enhance custom software, and provide production support. This role requires expertise in COBOL programming, JCL, and IBM/DELL mainframe operating systems. This is a consulting position offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical projects and enhance technical skills in a dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities: Program Development: Translate analysis, design documents, and specifications into well-structured programs. Maintain and enhance custom-developed software (e.g., user data entry screens, batch processing, reports, queries, and menus). Code Review & Testing: Conduct thorough reviews of existing code, data, and business processes. Execute test program changes, update test files, run tests, and ensure correctness based on provided requirements. Troubleshooting & Data Error Resolution: Identify and correct data errors via application logic. Develop data analysis and summary reports utilizing IBM and Microsoft tools. Software Conversion & Support: Assist with the conversion of COBOL applications to web-based applications. Documentation: Prepare both program-level and user-level documentation for the software development lifecycle. Software Enhancement: Enhance software to reduce operating time and improve efficiency while adhering to organization guidelines and procedures for code management and deployment. Required Experience/Skills: Technical Expertise: Minimum of 8+ years experience in COBOL development on Mainframe. Experience with JCL development and maintenance. Proven experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, and Control-M. Experience in preparing comprehensive documentation for both program-level and user-level. Software Development Lifecycle: Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including design, development, integration testing, and deployment. Analytical & Debugging Skills: Strong analytical skills to support non-database functions, correct data errors, and develop data analysis/summary reports. Ability to troubleshoot, test, and debug computer software to produce required outcomes. Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to obtain user sign-off on all changes before moving to production. Ability to follow organizational guidelines and procedures for code checkout, migration, etc. Efficiency & Optimization: Commitment to enhancing software for improved efficiency and reduced operating time.
