This role will create and manage metadata and other data governance functions required by the Virginia Office of Data Governance and Analytics. Key responsibilities for the role include (but are not limited to): Maintaining and administering the Commonwealths Business Glossary Supporting the identification, implementation and consumption of metadata and data modelling tooling Supporting the capture and derivation of data lineage Supporting and contributing to the creation and maintenance of data models Azure and/or Data certifications; experience in a big-data environment or data security Knowledge of data governance and security practices; and of technologies, programming and scripting languages, and data tools associated with big-data processing projects. Technical Job Responsibilities Business Glossaries/Data Catalog o Responsible for the maintenance of a data catalog and business metadata associated with strategic data assets o Support the build out of data taxonomy, data dictionary and business glossaries of data assets o Support on-boarding of domain data sources to the data catalog Metadata o Work with business analysts and solution designers to identify critical data elements and capture the metadata relating to them o Oversee the maintenance of metadata artifacts, reporting and escalating where appropriate, resolving issues, gaps and inconsistencies o Document the lineage of data from creation to output, ensuring that the information is useable and meets the business needs o Complete metadata and data quality audits, act on findings as necessary, and report audit progress o Respond to questions from various teams, troubleshoot issues, and update metadata as needed o Document and maintain classification and sensitivity standards. Other o Use Power Platform to automate agency work. o Utilize task tracking tools such as JIRA to keep stakeholders updated on progress o Perform self-management tasks such as: monitoring progress, providing summaries of progress, assisting in risk identification, and monitoring mitigation responses o Perform assigned duties to assist the Office of the Chief Data Officer or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. May be required to work during hours not regularly scheduled for work, as directed by the supervisor. Required Experience 1-2 years working as a data analyst with experience collecting, organizing, and managing data preferably with tools such as Purview or Informatica Experience with SQL and an understanding of data and systems' infrastructures Excellent attention to detail. Strong work ethic and positive attitude to get things done Strong communication and organizational skills The selected candidate must continually meet requirements of the Conflict-of-Interest Act, pass a fingerprint background check, and also sign and adhere to the Confidentiality Statement at the end of this document.
