Our client is a large government organization serving the residents of one of the most populous counties in Texas. Their IT department supports critical technology infrastructure that enables numerous public services across multiple facilities and locations. They maintain an extensive network connecting downtown campus buildings, data centers, and remote offices throughout the county. With a commitment to security, reliability, and public service, the IT department plays a vital role in ensuring continuous operations for essential government services including courts, tax offices, health services, and public safety. Job Description
As a Senior Network Architect, you will be responsible for designing, installing, and managing all layers of our client's network infrastructure. This critical role involves ensuring high availability and fault tolerance across the client's extensive network while managing connectivity for the Wide Area Network (WAN), partner agencies, and internet connections.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include configuring and maintaining network equipment at all levels from access layer switches to core routers, implementing security measures, and proactively monitoring network performance. You will work with various technologies including VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF and BGP), firewalls, Wi-Fi networks, and VPN solutions to maintain a robust and secure network environment.
The ideal candidate possesses advanced Cisco certifications, has extensive experience with enterprise network infrastructure, and can work both independently and as part of a team. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on critical government services by ensuring reliable and secure network connectivity across multiple county facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain Access layer Ethernet switches for the Local Area Networks (LANs) in the downtown campus and remote locations.
Design and implement fault-tolerant star topologies for the LANs and utilize Virtual LAN (VLAN) technologies for efficient use of network ports.
Install, configure, and maintain all Distribution and Core layer routers/switches at multiple buildings and offices.
Install, configure, and maintain all Data Center routers/switches/load balancers to ensure optimal performance.
Manage route advertisement between all routers via OSPF and BGP protocols.
Manage the leased Ethernet and fiber connectivity for the Wide Area Network (WAN).
Design, implement, and manage all Wi-Fi networks (802.11x) infrastructure.
Install, configure, and manage the network firewalls to maintain security.
Implement and manage remote access into the network using Virtual Private Network (VPN) technologies.
Configure and manage authentication software (RADIUS) for VPN and Wi-Fi networks.
Install, configure, and maintain network management software to proactively monitor all layer 2 and layer 3 network devices.
Assist other IT personnel in troubleshooting application performance issues through packet tracing and analysis.
Research and develop new products related to improving network availability, performance, and mobility.
Test new technologies and develop standards for network equipment and protocols.
Seek approval of proposed standards from the IT Technical Committee.
Perform other related duties as assigned or required for IT Department operations.

Required Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree majoring in an Information Technology related field.
Six (6) full-time years' experience in Layer 2 or Layer 3 Network Infrastructure.
Hands-on advanced working knowledge of current and planned information technology tools and environments for government networks.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification or higher professional certificate required.
Experience with enterprise-level routing and switching configurations.
Knowledge of network security principles and implementation of security controls.
Experience with WAN technologies and provider connectivity.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Ability to maintain technical documentation of network infrastructure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with network monitoring tools and performance optimization.

Nice-to-Haves
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification.
Experience with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI).
Experience configuring and managing Palo Alto firewalls.
F5 load balancing implementation and administration experience.
Experience in government or public sector IT environments.
Knowledge of data center networking and virtualization technologies.
Experience with cloud networking and hybrid connectivity solutions.
Familiarity with network automation tools and scripting.
Experience with IPv6 implementation and transition strategies.
Knowledge of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) concepts.
Experience with network design and implementation for high-availability environments.
Project management experience for network infrastructure deployments.
