This is a contract position based in Warren or Pontiac, MI, ideal for candidates with a background in technical writing within the automotive or manufacturing domain. The writer will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality service and repair documentation, ensuring it meets the needs of GM technicians and global service operations. Key Responsibilities: Create, revise, and update service manuals, diagnostic procedures, bulletins, and technical instructions for GM vehicles and components. Interpret engineering documents, CAD drawings, and prototype feedback to produce accurate technical content. Collaborate with engineers, product developers, and service teams to gather required technical data. Use authoring tools and content management systems to draft and publish documentation according to GM standards. Ensure compliance with internal quality, branding, and safety documentation guidelines. Participate in document reviews and incorporate feedback from various stakeholders. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing sector. Familiarity with automotive systems, service procedures, and diagnostics. Proficient in content management systems and authoring tools such as Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker, XML, or similar. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Skills: Experience with GM documentation systems and standards. Knowledge of SAE and ISO standards related to technical publications. Exposure to Agile development environments and PLM systems.
