Ability to do Data Modelling JOB SUMMARY: The Database Application Developer will work with business units to improve the functionality and ease of use of end-user interactions with the AFA Salesforce and Fonteva databases. Coordinating closely with all stakeholders, the Developer will translate business information requirements into new and enhanced solutions that improve the user experience and productivity. They will recommend industry best practice database solutions and strategies to the Association. The Developer is responsible for maintaining the integrity, security, best practices, and performance of databases, keeping them up and running smoothly 24/7 to provide a seamless flow of information on both backend data structure and front-end accessibility for end-users. They will document on-going patching procedures and develop initiatives to minimize any downtime associated with the database patching. They will also troubleshoot technical database issues and work with application developers, contractors, and/or application vendors on new database and user interface features and product enhancements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Design and implement database functionality in accordance with information needs (approximately 65% of effort): Build database systems of high availability and quality in response to end user specified requirements Define solutions to requirements and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required Modify databases according to requests and perform tests (approximately 20% of effort): Design stable, reliable and effective databases Optimize and maintain legacy systems Solve database usage issues and malfunctions Liaise with developers to improve applications and establish best practices Gather user requirements and identify new features Develop technical and training manuals Provide data management support to users Ensure all database programs meet company and performance requirements Research and suggest new database products, services, and protocols Provide and direct support of database system (approximately 10% of effort): Ability to do Data Modelling Design physical schema design for newly created database Install and patch high-availability database, and maintain disaster recovery design, interaction with network and system administrators Continuously debugging and optimizing systems Exhibit strong SQL skills Other Duties as assigned (approximately 5% of effort): Provide advice, support, reports to program managers and other staff as requested. Other tasks as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works out of Air Force Associations headquarters in Arlington, VA. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, subject to modification based on the needs of each program or site. Operates in a professional office environment with travel to local offices, community partners, and events. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands: The position requires sedentary work (sitting most of the time with no adverse environmental exposure) and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The position also includes the following physical requirements: Movement. The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee in this position needs to be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a copy machine and printer. The employee is required to communicate and hold verbal conversations with others by means of the spoken word. Employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Engineering At least 4 years of IT experience, object-orientated design, and programming a language such as C# or C++. SQL experience preferred Supervisory and project management experience. Certifications & Licenses Required: Salesforce Advance Administrator Certification Salesforce App Builder required and Platform Developer Certification Preferred Fonteva Certifications (such as Platform Developer II) Department Core Competencies: Technical Competencies (IT) Problem-Solving Decision-Making Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Advanced skills in Salesforce application including configuration, triggers, process builder, workflows, Visualforce, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Apex coding, batch processes, Salesforce DX, and database design Experience personalizing organization Salesforce environments Salesforce and Fonteva implementations Working knowledge of Database Administration and Design Ability to work independently toward delivery of goals as well as collaborate in team efforts Ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment Skill in Database software installation, upgrades, and patching Skill in interviewing users and identifying their needs Skill in organizing and managing projects Skill in building consensus among stakeholders and colleagues. Excellent customer service skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent business, functional, technical acumen. Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages, Fonteva, Salesforce, and other software and key tools.
