Local candidates strongly preferred. Travel up to 90% within California (primarily Riverdale and Irvine).Job Summary Act as the primary on-site liaison and systems test engineer for StarFire GNSS receiver testing and validation in precision agriculture environments. Coordinate with UC ANR South Coast Farm, ISG-T teams, and John Deere engineering to execute field testing, equipment maintenance, and validation activities.Key ResponsibilitiesRequired QualificationsPreferred Qualifications Note: This role requires significant field work and travel within California; local candidates are strongly preferred. Travel up to 90%, primarily to Riverdale, CA and Irvine, CA, to support test activities and TDP validation in orchard/experimental field environments. Act as the primary liaison with UC ANR South Coast Farm, coordinating all StarFire GNSS test activities and building strong relationships with farm management. Collaborate with engineering teams across ISG-T and John Deere to align test operations at the Irvine site and other locations. Train and support UC ANR staff on John Deere Precision Ag technologies, as needed. Oversee maintenance, readiness, storage, organization, and upkeep of John Deere test equipment and vehicles; coordinate repairs with local dealers. Execute software verification, validation, regression testing, and performance validation for StarFire GNSS receivers and related systems. Perform field testing including equipment setup, infrastructure installation, data logging/export, troubleshooting, and data analysis. Operate and test agricultural machinery in experimental field environments and validate GNSS receiver performance working independently and as part of an engineering team. Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Systems Technology, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. 1+ years of experience operating precision agriculture equipment. Familiarity with John Deere machinery and precision agriculture systems. Experience with system validation, verification testing, and regression testing. Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills. Hands-on experience with equipment setup and infrastructure installation. Strong knowledge of Precision Agriculture systems. Experience testing GNSS receivers and applying GPS fundamentals through hands-on training. Familiarity with CAN bus communication protocols. Strong hardware troubleshooting skills.
