MOI: Skype Strong communication skills and must have recent strong Utility background Job Overview: We are seeking a Senior AMI Meter Operations & Monitoring Specialist to support large-scale Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) environments for electric and gas utilities. This role is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing smart meter communications and operations across multi-million meter deployments. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with AMI operations, RF mesh networks, meter communications troubleshooting, read-rate optimization, MDMS integration, and firmware/OTA management . This position works closely with meter operations, IT, field services, billing teams, and AMI vendors to ensure reliable meter communications, accurate billing data, and high system performance. This role plays a critical part in ensuring meter data integrity, operational stability, and successful smart grid deployments across the utility ecosystem. Key Responsibilities AMI Operations & Monitoring Support daily operations of large-scale AMI meter networks for electric and gas utilities. Monitor meter communications across RF Mesh (RFLAN), RF LAN, and cellular networks. Analyze read-rate performance, meter connectivity, and sector acceptance metrics. Identify and resolve non-communicating meter issues through root cause analysis. Validate remote connect/disconnect functionality and service switch operations. Meter Data & Billing Validation Monitor billing batch cycles and interval data processing to ensure accurate usage billing. Validate meter data across Collection Engine, MDMS, and billing systems. Perform SQL-based data validation to confirm meter data accuracy in upstream/downstream systems. Coordinate with MDMS teams to retrieve and validate missing interval data (IDR). Investigate billing exceptions and support resolution of data integrity issues. Smart Meter Network Performance Monitor and optimize AMI network communication performance and stability. Perform RF interference analysis and mitigation strategies to improve meter connectivity. Analyze network performance using AMI monitoring platforms and performance management tools. Identify trends impacting read rates and implement corrective actions. Firmware & Device Management Plan and validate Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware upgrades and configuration updates. Conduct device testing and validation prior to production deployments. Validate firmware updates for meter functionality, service switches, and communication stability. Support device lifecycle management across large meter populations. AMI Testing & Implementation Support AMI system integration testing across Collection Engine, MDMS, and OMS platforms. Execute functional, regression, and performance testing for new meter firmware and forms. Lead First Article Testing (FAT) and proof-of-concept testing for new devices and firmware versions. Manage AMI lab environments used to replicate production communication scenarios. Work closely with meter operations, field technicians, IT teams, and vendors to resolve system issues. Coordinate with meter shops and field services teams to diagnose hardware or installation issues. Serve as a technical liaison between utility teams and AMI technology vendors. Support integration across AMI, GIS, OMS, and billing platforms. Documentation & Operational Support Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and troubleshooting playbooks. Create technical documentation for RF mitigation, network troubleshooting, and operational workflows. Deliver technical training and workshops for utility teams on AMI troubleshooting and optimization.
