About the Role: The Senior Apache Kafka Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring enterprise-level Apache Kafka clusters. The core objective is to ensure high availability, robust security, and optimal performance across data pipelines. This role involves managing cluster topologies, troubleshooting Tier-3 issues, and automating infrastructure deployment. Key Responsibilities: Cluster Management: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Apache Kafka brokers, Zookeeper, KRaft, Kafka Connect, and Schema Registry. Performance Tuning & Monitoring: Monitor cluster health, broker performance, consumer lag, and producer latency using Prometheus and Grafana to guarantee high throughput. Topic & Partition Management: Define and manage topic configurations, partitioning strategies, replication factors, and data retention policies. Security & Access Control: Implement SSL/TLS Encryption, Kerberos Authentication, and Access Control Lists (ACLs). Troubleshooting & Disaster Recovery: Provide 3rd-Level Support for production issues, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and manage multi-region replication for Disaster Recovery (DR). Automation & Collaboration: Automate infrastructure provisioning using Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, or Kubernetes. Collaborate with development teams to optimize pipeline design. Essential Skills: In-depth administration knowledge of Apache Kafka and Confluent Kafka platforms. Strong Linux System Administration and core operating system engineering skills. Hands-on experience with monitoring tools including Prometheus, Grafana, and Java Management Extensions (JMX). Proficiency in scripting and programming languages: Python, Bash, or Java. Production experience with containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift. Desirable Skills: Experience automating cloud-native streaming infrastructure using Terraform. Understanding of event-driven architectures and data pipeline optimization methodologies.
