Senior Embedded Software Engineer / Firmware Integration Lead Location: Remote Duration: 6+ Months We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer / Firmware Integration Lead to support a platform intelligence initiative focused on embedded telemetry, firmware/application integration, and hardware-aware control systems. This role sits at the intersection of firmware, transport, and host-side application integration, with primary ownership of: Embedded telemetry publication Firmware-to-application interface contracts Communication pathways between controller and host systems Firmware-level safety and control enforcement The ideal candidate brings deep Zephyr RTOS expertise, strong low-level engineering skills, and experience building reliable, production-grade firmware systems that integrate cleanly with Windows-based applications and platform services. This is a hands-on, system-level rolenot pure hardwarerequiring close collaboration across firmware, middleware, and UI teams. Key Responsibilities Embedded Development & RTOS Design and develop embedded software using Zephyr RTOS Implement kernel-level constructs including threads, work queues, timers, and synchronization primitives Configure RTOS components to support deterministic system behavior and real-time telemetry execution Support STM32H5 and similar MCU-based platforms Firmware Architecture, Telemetry & Interface Contracts Define and implement embedded telemetry publication from controller to host systems Design firmware/application interface contracts, including: o Telemetry schema and data models o Capability reporting o Validity flags and state indicators o Fault states and error handling Establish clean, versioned interfaces between firmware and host-side applications Enable controlled exposure of telemetry and approved control paths Firmware/Application Bridge & Integration Build and maintain the firmware-to-host communication bridge Support integration with Windows applications, middleware, and UI layers Ensure reliable telemetry ingestion and command/control pathways across system boundaries Partner cross-functionally to align firmware capabilities with application requirements Transport & Communication Protocols Implement host communication paths including: o USB (CDC, WinUSB) o UART and serial interfaces o Additional buses (SPI, I2C, SMBus as needed) Develop telemetry streaming and control messaging mechanisms Support protocol evolution and integration with platform standards Safety, Control & Guardrails Implement firmware-level safety mechanisms, including: o Rate limiting o Command validation and rejection paths o Safe-default behaviors Enforce controlled access to hardware-backed features Ensure system stability through deterministic control and fault handling models Platform Protocol Alignment Support alignment with platform management protocols such as: o MCTP o PLDM Contribute to protocol design considerations, validation, and integration readiness Hardware Bring-Up & Debugging Support board bring-up and hardware/software integration Read and interpret schematics to debug system issues Troubleshoot across: o MCU peripherals o Drivers and HAL layers o Communication interfaces System Integration & Validation Validate telemetry accuracy, cadence, and performance characteristics Support end-to-end integration testing across firmware and host systems Help establish stable, production-ready telemetry pipelines and control flows Contribute to architecture documentation and interface specifications Required Qualifications 10+ years of experience in embedded software / firmware development Strong proficiency in C/C++ (low-level programming) Deep expertise in Zephyr RTOS, including: o Threads o Work queues o Timers o Synchronization primitives Experience designing embedded telemetry systems and data pipelines Experience building firmware-to-application communication interfaces Strong knowledge of bus and communication protocols (USB, UART, SPI, I2C, SMBus, etc.) Experience with hardware bring-up and debugging, including reading schematics Strong cross-layer debugging skills (firmware transport application) Preferred Qualifications Experience with STM32H5 or similar MCU platforms Experience with WinUSB, USB CDC, or host-side USB integration Experience implementing or aligning to MCTP, PLDM, or similar protocols Experience with firmware safety models, fault handling, and recovery mechanisms Experience supporting Windows-based monitoring or control applications Prior experience in firmware/application bridge design or telemetry platforms Experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead Nice to Have Experience with other RTOS platforms (FreeRTOS, ThreadX) Familiarity with device drivers and BSPs Experience with debugging tools (JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) Exposure to embedded Linux or hybrid edge systems What Success Looks Like Delivers reliable embedded telemetry pipelines from controller to host Establishes clean, scalable firmware/application contracts Builds stable firmware-to-host communication bridges Implements robust safety guardrails and control enforcement Supports protocol alignment and platform integration Operates as a technical leader across firmware and application boundaries Please share your resume at [email protected] Keywords: cprogramm cplusplus user interface information technology card Senior Embedded Software Engineer || Remote || 13+ years experience needed [email protected] http://bit.ly/4ey8w48 https://jobs.nvoids.com/job_details.jsp?id=3486646&uid=24d0f8f3448e4f658296b31e1e926eef |
