Build and Release Engineer

Location : St. Louis Missouri (Hybrid)

Duration : 6-12 Months

Interview: 1.      20 minute phone screen

                    2.      60-90 minute in person interview (tech questions, white board scripting sessions)

Notes:

             Need scripting skills such as Bash, Python and Scripting

             Linux

             Person will be migrating traditional workflows from ARA to Harness

             Working with internal customers regarding designs in Harness

             Test in QA and Dev environments and validation too

             Good communication skills required

Job Description :

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Build and Release Automation Engineer designs, develops, deploys, and operates automation technologies that provide continuous integration(CI) and continuous delivery(CD). The automation engineer shall provide support to consolidate, build, test CI/CD pipeline in production and lower environments. Manage and monitor the automation of software deployments, support automation testing and implementation. Support virtual machine, application, and code deployments. Write scripts and use tools to automate CI/CD in CSP's.  Research, document, and solve automation problems.

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering w/modern programming languages Java, Ruby, and or Python and two years of experience. Two years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the degree.

Develop, plan, implement and support automation based projects and solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including determination and delivery on cost, time and quality to ensure the sustained production, with an overall focus on productivity and safety. The projects may be within new facilities and/or retrofit of existing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Provide ongoing best practices and application support knowledge transfer to co-workers. Training application teams on automated deployments and scripting process. On-boarding new application teams as required

Strong grasp of automation and monitoring tools (ability to automate repeatable tasks via scripting)

Ability to design and manage CI/CD pipelines

Administrative experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, monitoring, maintaining Linux infrastructure

Create and maintain integration interfaces to other Charter tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, Selenium, Jenkins, Artifactory, HP ALM, etc.

Maintain library of Standard Operating Procedures for consistent and effective operation

Provide ongoing best practices and application support knowledge transfer to co-workers.  Train application teams on development and scripting process.  On-board new application teams as required.

Provide input to procedures for monitoring; receives alerts, evaluates diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues

Drive business and IT alignment to leverage reusable architecture capabilities

Collaborate with IT management to define and develop technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps, and practices

Act as a technical expert addressing problems relating to systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platform integration

Interact and consult with appropriate business analysts, project managers and developers to understand application/project requirements and define architectural solutions to meet those requirements

Work with the application solutions delivery teams in the development of services, components, standards, and frameworks required to support Charters business strategy (e.g. design patterns, reusable components)

Ensure that projects follow the prescribed development life cycle and meets quality standards

Assist with analyzing and recommending software acquisitions and alternative solutions/methodologies/strategies and tools

Keep current with trends and technological innovations in the Cable and IT industry, and make appropriate development recommendations

Identify risks associated with component or application implementation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Intermediate to advanced expertise in LINUX, UNIX, knowledge of hardware, command line tools and application programming interfaces (APIs)

Strong understanding and practical working knowledge of Unix Scripting, Bash, Java, Python, Jenkins, Git, Maven

Experience with the Atlassian Tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)

Experience with container orchestration (Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Mesosphere, AWS ECS/EKS)

Strong understanding of Enterprise Architectures, Java and Database solutions

Sound database experience in SQL server, SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle.  Experience writing SQL and NoSQL procedures

Experience administering application servers, servlet containers, and web servers (WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, etc.)

Experience with build automation tools, preferably Jenkins and GitLab

Experience with configuration management and workflow automation tools, preferably Puppet, Chef, Terraform, or Ansible

Knowledge of JFrog Artifactory, BitBucket / GIT, SVN and other SCM tools

Familiarity with Weblogic Scripting using WLST, Power Scripting, REST and SOAP Web Services, JIRA, Confluence and Splunk

Experience with unit testing and automated testing tools

Experience doing project and operations work

Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a high-profile environment.

Ability to interact effectively with diverse cross-functional groups, including Quality, Configuration Management, Data Management, IT operations, and Project Management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

             1+ years of experience working with Agile Development Practices

             2+ years of programming experience with automation or development in Go, Java, Python, Ruby, or equivalent

             1 + years of experience with Docker, ECS or Kubernetes

             1+ years of experience with Chef or Ansible

             3+ years of experience Production Support experience in Linux environments

             3+ years of experience in technology delivery in a DevOps / Cloud Engineering environment.

             2 years of exposure setting-up and configuring Build, Release and Continuous Integration to best practices

             Familiarity with Automic Application Release Automation (ARA) /UC4 One Automation

             Familiarity with Harness CD, Jenkins and GitLab

             Familiarity with BMC Remedy Change Management, Service Now or similar tools
