Here are the list of questions the hiring manager will ask and wants someone to know the answers to most of them going into the interview. Have you done a migration from UNIX to LINUX Great if they have, but honestly a little less important now as we are past this point in our own process. System now is SOLARIS - any experience Great if they have, but honestly a little less important now as we are past this point in our own process. RHEL7/8 (find out latest version of RedHat experience) Really looking for experience in RHEL 8 here. We are aiming for RHEL 8.6 at this point for go live, though subject to change for which 8.x version we will finally land on. Do you have RHEL satellite experience Would love a candidate that has experience standing satellite up from scratch or is comfortable/capable of doing so. Our thought will be to start with letting satellite manage the registrations and also repos for patching. ANSIBEL for automation Any other O/S modules for automation Something we arent currently doing but want to learn. With installation exp, have you used Kickstart Definitely need someone though that has experience mounting an ISO and installing RHEL. Cant just have experience only deploying VM templates. *Any Bash Scripting experience (Other scripting languages... Power) A candidate might say yes. We will say great and tell us what you did. The candidate will say I wrote a bash script to start a service. Not sure your familiarity but that is a 1 line command that is just inside a bash script. To us, that isnt what we mean by bash scripting. When we say bash scripting, we mean things like presenting menus to the user that asks for input and then depending on the input, takes some sort of action to do some sort of configuration. For example, we have written a bash script that can build out and configure our entire MR system and depending on the users input, will either standup a Primary, Backup, Disaster, or Training system after doing checks and confirmations with the end user to make sure they are sure and there isnt already a system of that type in the environment. Patching is also important in this role - how many years of patching exp do you have Need someone with experience using cli yum and/or dnf from the server itself to do patching. Not someone that only knows how to use ansible/satellite automations to do patching. Need someone that knows how to do rollbacks of manual processes without just answering with revert to snapshot, because there is no snapshot when the server is physical. Also want someone that knows how to select which patches to apply and not just answer with run yum update y What have you done with NFS Really need focus on NFS client experience. Where the RHEL box with be the client and understand mount options. What version of NFS have you used Need NFSv3, great to have NFSv4 Firewall/SE Linux experience Experience with commands, policies, zoning, etc. Network Bonding/Management Experience Understand the commands, bonding nics, troubleshooting including raw packet inspection Physical Hardware RHEL experience including installations and patching Cant just be a cloud/virtual guru. Have to know what it means to work with physical hardware/servers and what that means. I.e., no more snapshots, no more vm templates, etc. Active Directory tie in experience Connecting RHEL to AD as well as leveraging the authentication passthrough for AD authentications back into RHEL for resources/file shares/etc. Keywords: active directory information technology golang green card Virginia |
