You will work closely with a team of skilled engineers to ensure the efficient operation of business data processing applications and databases within the Pick environment. This role demands a deep understanding of Pick/BASIC, ENGLISH/Access queries, and the nuances of operating within a MultiValue database system. Key Responsibilities: Operating System Development: Design, develop, and maintain core components of the Pick operating system to ensure its reliability, performance, and security. Database Management: Manage and optimize the MultiValue database, including data modeling, schema design, and query optimization. Pick/BASIC Programming: Write, maintain, and enhance Pick/BASIC code to create and maintain business applications and scripts within the Pick environment. Query Optimization: Create and optimize ENGLISH/Access queries to retrieve and manipulate data efficiently. System Integration: Integrate Pick applications and databases with other systems and technologies as needed. Data Migration: Plan and execute data migration and conversion projects, ensuring data integrity and compatibility with the Pick system. Performance Tuning: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks within the Pick environment, including optimizing code and database queries. Security and Compliance: Implement security measures and adhere to compliance requirements to protect sensitive business data. Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation, including Pick/BASIC code documentation, database schemas, and query guides. Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver solutions that meet organizational needs. Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to end-users and team members to maximize the effectiveness of the Pick system. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications or advanced degrees are a plus. Strong proficiency in Pick/BASIC programming and experience with ENGLISH/Access queries. In-depth knowledge of the Pick operating system and MultiValue database concepts. Experience with database management, schema design, and data modeling within the MultiValue environment. Familiarity with data migration and conversion processes. Problem-solving skills to identify and address performance issues and system integration challenges. Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements in a business data processing environment. Previous experience with Pick implementations on various hardware platforms, including minicomputers, personal computers, and mainframes, is highly desirable.
