Mid-tier Network Engineer 3-month engagement On-site (since the work is primarily hands on) Regular 40-hour work week with roughly 9-4 core hours (may be occasional early or late starts and ends due to work needs) Location is their Milpitas, CA office (880/Tasman) This is for their engineering department to get a handle on growing lab issues as they expand, though the role will report into IT for oversight. Practical experience with: Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet. The primary role will be working with our lab team to identify, isolate, and help resolve some network design issues at the /L3 level (mostly Ethernet.) The existing lab has a number of network issues owing to growth and inexperience on the lab staff side. Some of these issues are simple segment setup issues requiring a change in cabling or other design aspects, some are likely going to require network analysis and work with the vendors to resolve configuration issues. Labs are across two neighboring buildings. Note this is small 'd' design (how to properly layout a network segment with a few switches,) not large 'D' Design and Architect (like designing a campus-wide network) Secondary work will include deployment of additional network hardware as the lab expands, documenting the lab environment with enough detail to assist future lab managers in troubleshooting, and developing default deployment template recommendations for future network hardware. Additional work as needed around the campus, which might include some troubleshooting of LAN and wireless issues on the corporate network. Besides the skills in the specific network technology, solid experience using a network packet analyzer is needed. Will need to partner with both IT and the Lab Managers, working under the direction of IT, and be able to operate somewhat independently. Certifications are helpful, work experience in solving network issues is more important.
