Some Notes:

Looking for Mid-level big data operations engineer

Along with supporting Big Data want good windows administration experience in AWS not on prem Power scripting along with other AWS EMR and Big Data operations

Shift 12pm-8pm and once every 6 weeks on call weekend rotation

Role is remote close to finra approved locations

Scripting Power, python and AWS heavy (EC2, EMR, Lambda etc)

NOT looking for Jenkins application engineering builds/deployments but looking for standard Big Data operations engineers

They use JAMS (enterprise batch scheduler tool) to kick off workloads for big data processing hosted on Windows AWS. Need to do standards maintenance with this tool of onboarding jobs, upgrades, taking care of EC2 instances. Need to navigate in Windows environment

Job is 50% Windows AWS and 50% Big Data

There will be training but need operational knowledge

Experience: 5 to 6 years in Operations.

Job Description:

This position is for a mid-level support engineer that will provide primarily support of data operations in AWS and on-prem hosted platforms for Market Regulation. Supported platforms include AWS Services, UNIX, Windows, SQL, Postgres, Batch Scheduling, etc.

This engineer should be able to perform application data operations activities for both AWS services and on-premise data centers in support of the processing of market volumes of big data. Work involves monitoring batch processing, data processing execution, SQL status queries, management / remediation of issues, and escalation activities. Work also includes automation of data monitoring using Python scripting and SQL queries. Usage of central batch processing tools like JAMS or any other equivalent is valuable to have. Mid-level experience in running SQL database queries is needed.

REQUIRED:

AWS Windows administration experience. Need to administer FINRA enterprise Batch scheduler (JAMS tool) with standard maintenance and upgrades and automation with Windows power is desired.

AWS experience is a must. At FINRA we are rapidly expanding the application footprint in AWS. We are utilizing many services provided by AWS, and are continuously evolving as AWS evolves. Having experience supporting applications in AWS at an enterprise level is needed. Specifically working with EMR, EC2, S3, RDS, EBS Volumes, ELB, and Security Groups.

SQL, Postgres, Oracle, or equivalent database experience and building/running queries is a must.

Operational and DevOps activities heavily utilize SQL queries in the environment.

Experience providing support for Linux based systems is a must. This includes assisting application teams with assessing issues and troubleshooting deployments.

Knowledge of setup/provisioning of AWS server environments in support of application team deployments. While this does not include the actual build activity of servers, it does include:

working with application teams to develop requirements

assisting with submitting those requirements to build teams

following up until the servers are delivered

reviewing log files, application servers/services

Systems integration experience desirable. FINRA has a very large integrated environment between many applications and services. This position will provide support including:

application to application integration

data flow between applications and services

troubleshooting of integration issues

Scripting experience is required, and mid-level knowledge of Python and Power is desired. FINRA has a very mature automated deployment pipeline for deploying applications through their development lifecycles. Scripting technologies are utilized to support those activities.

Experience with automated deployment tools is a plus.
